NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing): This is a screening test used to identify chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus during pregnancy by analyzing the fragments of DNA in the bloodstream. It can also be used to determine the sex of a child. The test is non-invasive because it does not pose any risk to the fetus. The test is performed between 9 and 10 weeks of the pregnancy. The tests include Down syndrome (trisomy 21), Edwards Syndrome (trisomy 18), and Patau syndrome (trisomy 13).
